Speedy on pienempi version Louisin pojan Georges Vuittonin vuonna 1930 suunnittelemasta Keepall laukusta ja keepall oli sen verran kovan luokan hitti, ettei aikaakaan kun Vuitton esitteli Speedyn. Keepallin käsilaukku kokoisen pikkusiskon. Alkuun Speedyä sai vain koossa 30, mutta vuonna 1965 Audrey Hepburnin toivomuksesta luotiin myös pienemi koko 25. Nykyään Speedyä saa myös kokoluokissa 35 ja 40. Koko on suoraan verrannollinen laukun pituuteen sentteinä. Speedy on tänäkin päivänä yksi LV:n myydyimpiä veskoja.
Syy miksen ole itse vielä Speedyä hankkinut, etenkään ikonisessa Monogram kuosissa on se, että Speedyjä on lähes aina tarjolla Monogramina useissa eri mitoissa. Voin sellaisen itselleni hankkia melkeinpä milloin vain, sen sijaan viime aikoina hankkimieni laukkujen löytäminen ei ole aina ollut itsestäänselvyys.
Kuitenkin viime kuukausina hyvin monogram painotteista ja muutenkin aika tummaa laukkurivistöäni katseltuani olen alkanut kaivata vaaleaa laukkua. Olen aina tykännyt LV:n Damier Azur kuosista jossa olisin halunnut Pochettenikin hankkia puolitoista vuotta sitten (jäljellä oli enää monoa) ja yllätin itseni katselemasta laukkuja kyseisessä kuosissa, se kun ei ole vintage kuosi. Kuten sanottu, en ole niinkään ihastunut kovinkaan moneen Vuittonin nykymalliin, joten Pinterest ja Youtube seikkailuni veivät minut katselemaan Speedyjä koossa 30. Klassinen malli vähän tuoreemmassa värissä.
Azur kuosissa toki ei Vintage Speedyä löydy, mutta noh, olkoot sitten kokoelmani juniori. Vingate laukut ovat useimmiten Mono canvasta ja Epi nahkaa. Joskin tätä kokoa juuri tässä kuviossa ja koossa ei ole yhtä helppo löytää, kuin Monogramia etenkin jos vaatimuksena on vaaleahko patina. Kädessä ja paljaalla käsivarrella kannettavissa laukuissa vachetta kahvat tummuvat joskus todella paljon. Siis todella paljon. Minä kun pidän sellaisesta täyteläisestä hunajapatinasta en oikein lämpene mustuneille ja heti huoltoa vaativille kahvoille.
Laukun metsästäminen on kuitenkin puolet hauskuudesta, joten let the hunt begin! Raportoin takaisin, jos ja kun metsästykseni tuottaa tulosta.
------ One bag that can be found in almost every vintage bag lovers collection must be Louis Vuitton Speedy. It is a very easy to find bag and a great piece to start your collection with. Vintage or new. It has been one of the most popular bags of Vuitton since mid 1930. It is the first handbag model from Vuitton and it was published after Georges Vuitton, son of Louis, designed the Keepall bag for overnight stays and it became such a hit that Vuitton launched the handbag sized Speedy 30 which was the only size the bag came in 1965 when Audrey Hepburn requested for a smaller size - the Speedy 25 was born. Nowadays you can get this baby also in sizes 35 and 40. The size is directly comparable with the length of the bag.
So, if it it such an iconic must have bag why isnt there one in my collection? Short answer is; yet. But the more informative one sounds like this; it is such an easy bag to come by. I can get it almost anytime and the bags I have recently purchased have been more on the harder to find side. I have been planning to get one but every time I have a chance to get a new piece I find something I haven't yet stumbled in. So the Speedy keeps waiting.
However lately, during the past few months, I have been looking at my monogram heavy and rather dark coloured collection and it has slowly grown on me that I want a light bag. Not a pop of color - but light. I have always liked the Damier Azur pattern from LV but as it is a quite new pattern it does not appear on the vintage pieces, they are mostly mono and epi. However after some adventures in Pinterest and Youtube an idea of an Azur Speedy 30 has slowly sneaked into my head. A classic design with a little bit newer patter on it. It is almost vintage, right? But what the hell, it will be the junior if my collection then! Anyhow, one isn't that easy to come by second hand in this color and size as you may think. One with a not so dark patina at least. Either people buy this patter a lot less or they don't wanna give it up when they do. The bags I have seen for sale often have a very very dark patina as well, a hand/arm carried bag often gains more coloring than a shoulder one on the vachetta but I still wish to find one I don't have get cleaned right away. I also am not going to compromise on the size of 30 so I think there is a hunt ahead of me. However, it is half the fun to hunt down the bag you are craving for - so let the hunt begin and I will report back if and when I find success!
